September Blog – Transitions

September is tinged with joyful anticipation of Fall, with its cooler temperatures and autumn colors, and shadowed by a lingering sadness as summer fades away.  It is a time of transition, as seasons change and we trade our cotton shorts and short-sleeved shirts for cozy fleece pants and warm, woolen sweaters.  Even our food choices morph from alfresco dining and barbeques to comfort cuisines of delicious soups, hearty stews and hot chocolate.

We start the first Monday of the month in celebration that honors and recognizes the American Labor Movement and its achievements.  Labor Day became an official federal holiday in 1894, and a distant uncle by marriage, Peter J. McGuire, was instrumental in the US recognition of this date as a holiday.  It was not so long ago, either, that students traditionally started school right after Labor Day, but things have sure changed and many children now start school in August, thereby shortening summer fun!  My favorite day in September is my daughter’s birthday and this year, as a new mom, she celebrates with her baby son!  We also remember the birthdays of our dad, Frank, on September 1st, and Aunt Jill on September 11th.

So, no matter how you choose your transitions, live every moment with good intentions and kindness.  And don’t forget to share a good book!  I recommend The Fire She Set, which is available for purchase on Amazon (www.thefiresheset.com) or at your favorite bookstore, and you can also read on Kindle or listen to on Audible https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Fire-She-Set-Audiobook/B0CN9QYJW7.
