October Blog – Autumn Spice

Autumn Spice

October is decorated in pumpkin orange and brightly colored leaves in fiery shades of red, yellow and orange.  Sweater weather has arrived with cooler days and even cooler nights warmed by wood burning fires in the hearth (if you are so lucky to still burn wood!).  Halloween is coming with trick or treaters, imaginative costumes and candy to hand out and share.  And if you were so lucky, you may have seen the full super Harvest Moon eclipse rise on September 17th, a stunning event or witnessed the full Hunter’s Moon on October 17th .

Fall has arrived and so has the anticipation of  thanksgiving and Christmas holidays as plans are being considered and discussed on where to spend the holidays and seeing the most of family and friends.  The kitchen again becomes the center hub and we enjoy the last of our harvests of luscious ripe tomatoes, sweet corn, apples ready to pick to make into applesauce and pies.

Shorter days and longer nights make it a good time to reflect on our blessings, meditate in candlelight and curl up in your favorite chair with a cozy blanket and book of your choice.  I always recommend The Fire She Set (available in paperback, kindle or audible).  Such a wonderful time of year to give thanks and enjoy the simple pleasures in life!
