JUNE BLOG – SUMMER TIME

It’s Summer and the days are now filled with yellow, warm sunshine.  We eagerly start planning our well deserved and long awaited summer vacations with the intent to discover more of the great outdoors and especially the chance to hike mountain trails, long walks on the beach, fish in rivers and lakes and camp out under the starry skies.

I remember our family summer camping trip which took us from Ventnor, New Jersey to Portland, Oregon in the Summer of 1973.  Dad was selected as a NJ delegate for the National Education Association and my sisters and I were teenagers ready to take on a new adventure.  Mom packed up the motorhome and station wagon and the entire family, pets included (Genii girl, Mom’s siamese cat and Winnie, Dad’s bull dog).  Our story is chronicled in The Fire She Set and it was our last family vacation as a year later, our house fire claimed the lives of Mom, Dad and Winnie.

June 21st marks the 50th Anniversary of the fire.  And, it still seems like it was almost yesterday that we were jumping out of our townhome for safety.   So, I dedicate this June Blog to you Mom and Dad.  We remember you always and miss you forever.
