July is red, white and blue with colored stripes and stars as we proudly fly the American flag. This month we celebrate the 4th of July with old-fashioned barbeques – hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob and watermelon! If we can, we might view a home-town parade with marching bands and vintage cars rolling down Main Street. And no celebration is complete without spectacular fireworks, set to the tune of John Philip Souza’s patriotic songs about America.
Independence Day marks the birth of our American democracy and coveted freedoms. Now more than ever, we want to be a beacon of light in a world darkened by conflicts and wars. We can only hope that our leaders act with the same bravery, integrity and wisdom that our forefathers did, to keep America safe and protect our cherished democracy, the freedoms we hold so dear and for which they fought so hard.
So today and every day. take time to enjoy these hot summer days. Treat yourself, your family and friends to an ice cream cone–it tastes better with a loved one! Support our troops and first responders, and don’t forget to do something memorable and enjoyable like reading or listening to my story, The Fire She Set, available as a book, Kindle or on audible.
