August Blog – Summer Paradox

AUGUST BLOG – SUMMER PARADOX

August has arrived and it presents a kind of paradox:  we’re in the middle of summer and yet feeling the early twinges of fall and the hint of things to come.  Farmers are already starting to harvest their hay and the days are getting almost imperceptibly shorter.  Retail clinches the deal with back to school shopping and aisles that are filled with fall décor and Halloween spookiness.

At home, the gardens are in full bloom and the weeds are gallantly keeping up with the flowers.  The hummingbirds are thriving on the colorful gardens and feeders by the kitchen window, which get filled 2-3 times a day.  The days are hotter and nights are hot, it seems the dogs days of summer are here.  There is a rush to fill the August calendar with outdoor activities – fishing, boating, and impromptu outdoor barbeques and al fresco dining with anyone who answers the call or text message!  Summers can end quickly in Idaho!

So, as we fill up our August calendar, don’t forget to take pleasure in some old fashion summer fun tinged with a bit of laziness.  I recommend finding a hammock in the shade, simply for the purpose to enjoy a good book.  I recommend The Fire She Set, which is available for purchase on Amazon or your favorite bookstore, to read on Kindle or listen to on Audible.
