April Blog – Nostalgia

We are hopeful that April showers bring May flowers as we live in a part of the country that needs rain due to a very mild winter.  The good news, no snow on the ground for the Easter Bunny to deliver colored eggs and chocolate candy filled baskets to smiling children on Sunday morning.

As a young child, I remember Easter was a special holiday that included pretty dresses, shiny white Maryjane shoes, cotton gloves with pearl buttons and of course, a flowered hat!  Family pictures were taken in Grandma’s rose garden.  After church, there was a fancy Sunday dinner served on fine china with silver and crystal followed by a pile of dishes that me and my younger sisters were in charge of washing and drying.  This task was accomplished by standing on a box and seemed to take hours and by then we were hungry again!

The best part was always our Easter basket, filled with chocolate bunnies, yellow marshmallow peeps and colored jelly beans that we would find hidden Easter morning.  And growing up in Brigantine, who could forget the famous Easter Parade on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City.  I can still hear the lines from the song, “In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it/ you’ll be the grandest lady In the Easter parade…”  We went as a family, a rare event, and marveled at all the well-dressed ladies and gents in their Easter finery.  Some of the hats were absolutely amazing, worthy of the Kentucky Derby!

As we stroll down memory lane and relive the simpler times of Easters past, remember to take some time for yourself and enjoy a good book, like The Fire She Set, which is available for purchase on Amazon or your favorite bookstore, to read on Kindle or listen to on Audible.
